Part time
SANCTUARY CHOIR DIRECTOR
Qualifications:
- Must have a faith firmly grounded in Jesus Christ
- Undergraduate music degree required
- Instrumental music background required
- Specific training in choral direction required
- Prior experience as an adult choir director of professional and amateur singers
- Prior experience leading musical groups (school or church related)
- Prior experience with/knowledge of orchestral instruments
- Understanding of liturgical worship within the Reformed Church tradition, highly desired
Skills:
- Piano skills sufficient for rehearsing soloists, special ensembles, etc. and for leading a rehearsal from the piano, desired
- Possesses skills as a teacher; well versed in vocal pedagogy
- Ability to welcome and direct all vocal abilities
- Strives for excellence in performance while nurturing a positive experience/attitude from the participants
- Ability to assess congregational worship needs and talents
- Strong communication skills and commitment to teamwork
- Strong organizational skills
- Creativity, a blessing
Primary Responsibilities:
- Select vocal music for worship services in conjunction with Music and Worship Arts Director
- Rehearse (evenings September-June) and direct the Sanctuary Choir for worship services (weekly September-June) and occasional special services
- Engage members of the choir to refine their talents and glorify God
- Prepare vocal soloists in worship or within larger compositions
- Arrange with Music and Worship Arts Director for a substitute choir director as needed
- Participate in professional development experiences such as taking courses, attending conferences, workshops, etc.
Salary will be negotiated based on skills and experience.
