Salary: $85,000 - 125,000 per year Requirements:
- A bachelors degree in Engineering or a closely related field is typically required
- 2-5 years of experience in the engineering discipline or related areas
- A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Completed college-level coursework in RF Communications
- Strong analytical abilities related to RF communications
- In-depth understanding of communication systems, including digital modulation, encoding/decoding, and signal detection
- Excellent communication and organizational capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in team settings
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a government background check
- Experience with NASA processes is preferred
- Familiarity with antennas, RF propagation, and network layer protocols is advantageous
- Knowledge of CCSDS communication standards is a plus
- Understanding of Pseudo noise ranging, forward error correction techniques, and calculations involving Orbital Dynamics
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python is desirable
Responsibilities: - Serve as the RF Communications Systems Engineer for communication and tracking subsystems within the Gateway and Exploration programs
- Prepare Radio Frequency communication subsystem-level Interface Requirements Documents (IRD), Verification Requirements (VRs), and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for spacecraft
- Evaluate IRDs, ICDs, and requirements for components like transponders and transceivers
- Analyze link and network layer protocols as recommended by CCSDS
- Assess the performance of RF communication links and create link budgets through analytical methods and simulations
- Actively engage in Systems Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary & Critical Design Reviews, and Technical Interchange Meetings
- Conduct Radio Frequency interference and compatibility analyses, Power Flux Density analyses, and Spectral analyses for space-based communication systems
- Support the NASA RF communication subsystem manager during reviews and as the technical Point of Contact
- Interface with other NASA centers, federal agencies, and commercial partners representing JSC
- Utilize software tools such as Matlab, Simulink, and Excel for analysis
- Perform additional duties as needed
