We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist to operate precision machinery and create high-quality parts and components. The ideal candidate will have expertise in reading blueprints, operating various machine tools, and maintaining strict quality standards in a manufacturing environment.

SUMMARY
Sets up and operates conventional mills, lathes, grinders, and other shop machines to fabricate prototype
metallic and nonmetallic parts. Under limited supervision, to be responsible for the completion of
machine work assigned. Fabricates complex contour prototype parts to precision tolerances. Uses
independent judgment in the direction of as, signed employees of lower classification. Interprets
drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to fabricate component parts of models, test equipment, or
parts associated with aerospace and marine hardware or models. Interprets, selects, adopts, and applies
the appropriate guidelines, procedures, and practices which relate to machine technology and its related
disciplines in the machining of 3-D parts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions
and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for
subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on
machines such as conventional and/or CNC mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and
angle of cut. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining,
and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Run proof work piece to identify possible
problems.
Sets up, and operates precision and production machines such as conventional and/or CNC mills, lathes,
jig borers, and grinders to machine parts to specifications and/or to precision tolerances.
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using various measurement hand tools,
including but not limited to, calipers, scales, micrometers, blocks, gauges.
Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit
to ensure functionality and performance.
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly
problems.
Supports compliance with ISO 9002 procedures. Directs and assists employees of lower classifications to
support the same.
Maintains machine tie-in log using clearly written documentation.
Performs regular daily maintenance of machines and general housekeeping duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Certified apprenticeship program or equivalent, 8 years related job experience, and GD&T certification.
Demonstrated experience in the following: machining of complex contour prototype parts to precision
tolerances; interpreting various levels of blueprint specifications including those of MIL-T-31000; and,
machine experience covering a wide range of machines, materials, part shapes, and part sizes.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to clearly direct lower classifications of employees. Ability to articulate and trouble-shoot
problems with engineers, production, programming, and/or assembly personnel.
